ITU BG LEVEL 1 – COMPETITIVE COACH – ACCREDITATION

Introduction

Coach Education is deemed as being a vital link in the planning and development of the strategic plans pertaining to athlete development in the long term.

ITU supports the philosophy that athlete development is largely coach driven and with this in mind has developed a coach education curriculum for Level 1 coaches to service those National Federations that do not as yet have such a programme in place. Course materials have been developed by ITU BG Sport Development for use by National Federations.

To support those National Federations that do have such a programme in place ITU will provide the opportunity for these federations to get their current coach education programme (Level 1) accredited by ITU as long as they include all the curriculum content within their current structure.

Evaluation

Each program should have a demonstrated means of assessing and evaluating coaches in a competency-based format.  Assessment and evaluation should include:

E.g. A hypothetical list of programmes may look like the following:

Country “X”        Base programme + ITU Ethics
Country “Y”        Base programme + ITU Teaching and Learning + ITU Ethics
Country “Z”        Base programme + Sport Education

Therefore, if ITU were to use the programme from Country “X”, they would supplement the content with an Ethics module.
