I first took up triathlon with a local Weet-Bix race; I was swimming with the local North Shore swim club at the time. By 14, I was bored with swimming, and as I was on the school cycling team as well, I decided to give triathlon a go. My family has a history in sport and in triathlon in particular: my brother is an up-and-coming U23 triathlete, and my mother completed numerous half-Ironman and marathons. My dad is also a triathlete, but cycling is his main sport now. My little sister is a swimmer/surfer lifeguard. The person who has had the most influence on my sporting career is my brother, as he is a triathlete and my training partner.
I currently train on the North Shore in Auckland, and during an average training week I train approximately 20 hours in total; sometimes more, sometimes less. This includes time in the gym and recovery. I am have been a member of the Tri NZ Youth Academy for three years, and am on the Olympic Development squad. My favorite ITU race is Madrid, because it has a demanding, hilly bike course which would suit me. My triathlon goal is to win gold at the 2012 World Champs.
Something that the triathlon world doesn’t know about me is that I am an artist in the making. The biggest obstacle which I have had to overcome is completing my 6th form year at school.
