Recently, ITU President Marisol Casado, ITU Medical and Anti-doping Committee Chair Dr. Sergio Migliorini and ITU Anti-doping Director Leslie Buchanan attended the 2014 World Anti-Doping Agency Symposium for Anti-Doping Organisations (ADO) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The two day workshop was attended by over 350 anti-doping experts from National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADO), Regional Anti-Doping Organisations (RADO), Service Providers and International Federations.
This year’s annual conference was entitled “A New Era for the Fight against Doping”. With the 2015 Code and International Standards coming into effect on January 1st, 2015, the major changes to the Code were discussed. Of particular interest were the additional responsibilities on Intelligence and Investigations under the Revised Code including more information sharing between ADOs.
The symposium also allowed for excellent networking opportunities with a number of organisations, including Major Event Organisers (Glasgow 2014, Toronto 2015, Rio 2016), our anti-doping partners SAIDS and CCES (NADOs from South Africa and Canada), as well as a large number of NADOs and IFs. We also met with the World Triathlon Corporation (Ironman) to see what initiatives we could work together on in the future.
