Africa Triathlon Union holds its annual Congress

The African Triathlon Union recently held its annual Congress in Mauritius, during which the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) as the 42th affiliated National Federation to ATU. Triathlon has grown significantly in the continent the past two years, with 10 National Federations having been added since 2013.

General Nasser Ahmed, the President of the ATU, underlined that the annual grant from ITU had been vital for the development of the sport in Africa. Every year, ATU grows stronger and closer to their strategic aim to have an affiliated National Federation in each country of the continent.

ATU Congress 2015

During the Congress, ATU created a new structure for its Executive Board, which will go into affect from 2016. The structure will include a President, male and female Vice President, Secretary General, Treasurer, 5 Exectuvie Board members, and one elected Athlete Representative, with the main change being the addition of gender neutrality in the Vice President position.

It was also announced that the 2016 ATU Triathlon Championships will serve as the Continental Qualifying Event for Rio 2016 and will be held in South Africa in March. The elite, U23 and World Paratriathlon Event races will be on 20 March, while the the youth, junior and the paratriathlon African Championships will be held on on 13 March, 2016.

The next ATU Annual Congress will be held in Cairo, Egypt on the last weekend of July in 2016.
