World Triathlon

Nearly 8,000 age-group athletes from more than 60 countries took to the streets of downtown Hamburg this weekend for the 19th and largest triathlon world championships in ITU history.  Unlike most other sports, age-group athletes and athletes with a disability (AWAD) have the unique experience to race on the same course and on the same weekend as their elite counterparts.

One of the most popular world cup stops, Hamburg has the special distinction of becoming the first German city to host the triathlon world championships.  The races are not simply held in the city, they are part of the city.  Half a million people gathered along the side of the entire course enthusiastically cheering on all the athletes regardless of the flag on the uniform.

Casi 8,000 atletas de grupos de edad de más de 60 países tomarán las calles del centro de Hamburgo este fin de semana en los 19º campeonatos del mundo de triatlón, los más grandes en la historia de la ITU. A diferencia de otros deportes, los atletas de los grupos de edad y atletas con discapacidad (AWAD) tienen la experiencia única de correr en el mismo circuito y en el mismo fin de semana que sus compañeros de la élite.

Hamburgo es una de las paradas más populares de la copa del mundo, tiene la distinción especial de ser la primera ciudad alemana en albergar unos campeonatos del mundo. Las carreras no se albergan simplemente en la ciudad, sino que forman parte de la ciudad. Medio millón de personas se dieron cita a lo largo del curso del lago animando con entusiasmo a todos los atletas independientemente de la bandera del uniforme.
