In total, 30 coaches from five countries (Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey) took part in the ITU Level 1 Club Coaches Course in Medulin, Croatia. During the four-day course, facilitators Grega Zore from Slovenia and Tibor Lehmann from Hungary conducted theoretical and practical sessions about the basic know-how of triathlon. This included seminars on swimming, cycling, running, transitions, nutrition, sport psychology, philosophy, risk management, periodization and more. All the participants passed the exam after the course, becoming certified Level 1 triathlon coaches.
Here is what select participants from the course had to say about it:
Grega Zore, Slovenia (facilitator)
“This group was one of the best we had in a Level 1 Coaching Course. They were full of ideas and as facilitators we also got a lot from this course. We did our best and I think coaches were satisfied with the course and they will take new knowledge to their teams and athletes. Triathlon in our region is getting bigger each year also because of ITU development programs.”
Rok Bizjak, Slovenia (participant)
“Theoretical lectures and practical workshops worked at a high level. Facilitators were very professional with excellent knowledge that they were willing to share with us. All the participants were already well educated, so this created a good platform to have some constructive discussions. Overall we all had great time, gained new knowledge and created new friendships.”
Ljudmila Medan, Serbia (participant)
“The four-day ITU coaching course is a fantastic idea to bring together trainers from different regions in order to learn about new trends in triathlon training. Facilitators taught us many interesting facts. They also showed us how to improve our coaching skills. The group was passionate and enthusiastic about triathlon and we also exchanged our experiences.”
Vlatka Wertheimer, Croatia (participant)
“All of us participants at the ITU Level 1 Club Coaches Course agreed that the knowledge and experience that Tibor Lehmann and Grega Zore gave us was very systematical, practical and fundamental. It was a great experience to meet coaches from different parts of Europe, see and hear their thinking about coaching in triathlon, but above all, this teaching course pumped us to work and do more in sport that we love, TRIATHLON.”
Thank you to the Croatian Triathlon Federation who hosted the course.
