The Zululand Triathlon Club started a recruiting process to have volunteers for the World Cup Triathlon to be held in June 11 this year. To have a successful event you would need volunteers with different skills, and these volunteers would need to be trained in event management .The City of uMhlathuze who is credited by Sport and Recreation South Africa to run these courses came on board to assist with the training.
Casper Kriel the event organizer said that he was impressed that so many sport people responded to assist with this event. It was quite clear that the triathlon club do not only run events but also develop people from all walks of life. Many of these volunteers are also unemployed but can use this opportunity to gain experience.  As the 2010 World cup approaches these trained volunteers can also avail them.

Some of the modules covered in this skills programme include Managing volunteers, customer care; understanding people with special needs, risk management for events and general management principles. The same people who attended the first course will do a practical sport specific practical on the 27/05/06. Mark Dixon one of the facilitators who have also trained volunteers for the world cup cricket in 2003 said this is a need and also recognizes people for what they are doing. It is important that you make sure that these volunteers come back and keep them motivated. Some volunteers can use this to kick start a career path.
