First steps towards developing Technical Officials in Cambodia

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) and the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) have organised the first ITU Technical Officials Community Level Seminar in Phnom Penh, a seminar aimed to educate 28 candidates from Cambodia the basic knowledge and knowhow to organize national level triathlon events.

28 participants carefully selected by the Cambodian Triathlon Federation took part in the one and half a day seminar to learn about ITU Competition Rules and Event Organizers Manual to organize and operate triathlon events. Melody Tan, ITU facilitator from Malaysia, was in charge of the course.

Tan expressed her deep appreciation to the Cambodia Triathlon Federation for all their efforts and support to make the seminar possible. “I am so happy to have this opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with candidates mostly from other sports. I hope the participants will share what they learnt here with their friends and colleagues who are interested in our sport and implement their skills to have safe and fair events in this country.”

Participants expressed their satisfaction to learn about triathlon in an enjoyable seminar mood and thanked Tan for her efforts in making the seminar interactive by showing many videos and inviting questions and feedback from participants.

Mr. Kong Rithy Chup, President of Cambodian Triathlon Federation, thanked ITU and ASTC for their support to hold the seminar, “an event that will have a huge impact” on their technical officials’ development. To enhance triathlon development further in Cambodia, he requests for continuous support and assistance from ASTC and ITU.

The next ITU-ASTC Sports Development projects are 2017 Subic Bay ITU Paratriathlon Rules and Event Management Seminar on April 28th and the 2017 Dubai ITU Level 1 Coaches Course from April 30th to May 4th.
