Denmark’s Helle Frederiksen won the Mar Menor ETU Triathlon European Cup held in San Javier, Spain, finishing ahead of Radka Vodickova from the Czech Republic and Great Britain’s Vanessa Raw. It was Fredericksen’s second victory for in Spain this year having also won the Ferrol ETU Triathlon European Cup in June.

Frederiksen and Vodickova dominated the race from the start with Vodickova was the first out of the water and Frederiksen third. In the beginning of the cycle segment a group of seven triathletes escaped: Vodickova, Frederiksen, Zita Szabo (Hungary), Anna Burova (ESP) and Anastasiya Polyanskaya (Russia), Paulina Kotfica (Poland) and Vanessa Raw (GBR).

After them a group of ten was one minute behind and that difference was maintained through to the second transition. Vodickova and Frederiksen ran alone from the first kilometre as the lead two before
the Dane pulled away on the last lap to take victory.

Due to poor weather on the Sunday the men’s race was unfortunately cancelled.
