ITU Mombasa African Cup

Fort Jesus on the edge of a coral ridge at the entrance of the port of Mombasa forms the focus of the Mombasa African Cup Triathlon.

Over 300 athletes from Kenya, Mauritius and Reunion Island has gathered in the city to race in the junior and fun events. On Sunday Elite athletes from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ireland, New Zealand and the Netherlands will race for ITU Ranking points. Benson Njoronge, one of the top triathletes from Nairobi hopes to utilize his home country advantage to take him to his first ITU points.

Race Director Suleiman Said has his headquarters in the historical Old Town and he has the full support of the local community. Over 300 volunteers are working on race day and will line the multi lap route. Designed to highlight the important tourist areas the route include Fort Jesus, the Old Courthouse, the District commissioners offices while the cycle route follow the popular coastal drive overlooking the harbour entrance and distant coral reef.
