The 2nd annual ASTC Women’s Development Camp was held from September 18th - 23rd. Women from six different countries include Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mongolia, Nepal and Uzbekistan joined the training group (10 female athletes and five coaches) in preparation for the Incheon Asian Games. The purpose of the camp was to enhance female athletes’ development from emerging countries, and increase female participation n Asia.

Training sessions aimed at developing specific triathlon techniques including tapper and race strategies for the then-approaching Asian Games. The camp provided opportunities for sustainable development for targeted athletes and coaches.

“I am certain that we are in the right direction for triathlon development in Asia. Through the diverse camps we have been offered educational information and knowledge to national team coaches and athletes from our emerging countries. I believe that the camp is the best tools to boost athlete and coach development,” said Ki, Woo Kyong, ASTC Sport Development Coordinator.

“It is great to see new young athletes and coaches from emerging countries. Providing learning opportunities is the most important aspect of sustainable development. Through the group tasks, coaches could apply what they learned at the class room sessions,” said Luc Morin, ITU expert.

“Luc Morin, ITU expert coach, kept asking us about the purpose of training sessions. This type of questioning make our coaches reconsider training concepts and goals when we plan our programs. After the training sessions, we evaluated our training. This procedure improves our coaching skills,” said Lee, Jiyeol, Korean Team coach.
