Lisa Norden (SWE) was recently awarded the most prestigious annual sport award in Sweden for her impressive 2012 triathlon season. The award, named the Bragdguldet, is awarded to Sweden’s top athlete of the year.

It has been given to the likes of alpine skiers Anja Parson and Ingemar Stenmark and tennis star Bjorn Borg. Initiated in 1925, Norden became the first triathlete to join the long list of winners after beating out eight other sportsmen, many of whom were also Olympic medallists.

Throughout the 2012 ITU triathlon season, Norden claimed silver at the 2012 London Olympic Games in a nail-biting sprint battle down the finish chute with Nicola Spirig (SUI). She then went on to win two ITU World Triathlon Series races.

Despite suffering a dehydrating night with food poison, Norden closed out her season with by being crowned the world champion with a fourth-place finish in Auckland.
