PATCO Junior Camp this Summer

National Federations from the Pan American Region (PATCO) are invited to register junior triathletes (ages 15-19) to a junior development camp in San Antonio, Texas, from June 30 to July 6, 2008.

The seven-day/six-night camp will feature instruction from expert junior coaches, as well as the opportunity to train with top calibre juniors from North, South, and Central America, and the Caribbean.

The camp will focus on preparing athletes for international draft-legal junior competitions. It will address the fundamentals of junior triathlon, with plenty of opportunity for fun, too. PATCO athletes will be joined by U.S. athletes and coaches participating in a Junior National Select Camp also taking place at the same venue.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for all participants, athletes and coaches alike, to gain a greater appreciation for the international nature of junior triathlon,” said Steve Kelley, USAT athlete development coordinator. “We look forward to hosting our friends from the PATCO region and hope that this camp will form new friendships and inspire greater collaboration within the region.”

Applicants should be nationally-ranked junior competitors in their respective countries. PATCO or World Championship experience is a plus. Participating PATCO athletes must have a coach attend the camp with them, as this is intended to be a learning experience for both athlete and coach.

USA Triathlon has secured a special grant from the United States Olympic Committee to provide scholarships and travel stipends to support participation by PATCO athletes and coaches.
