Russian Boys Clean Up in Tiszi

Russia started their Tiszaujvaros campaign strongly with a one-two at the ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup over the unusual format of run - bike - swim - bike - run.

Dmitry Esaulav kicked away from compatriot Vyacheslav Pimenov to take gold by seven seconds with Namibia’s Abrahm Louw, a member of the ITU Sport Development programme, taking bronze. Six nations were represented in the top ten with Tom Davison from New Zealand in fourth and David Vegvari from Hungary in sixth.

Hamburg Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship bronze medallist, Alexander Brukhankov from Russia, cheered on his younger brother, Andrey, who crossed the line in seventh; one of the four Russians in the top ten.

The girl’s race saw an emphatic cleansweep for the Caelers twins from the Netherlands with Maaike taking the win from sister Anouk. The pair stayed ahead of Barbara Balogh, who delighted the home support with third for Hungary. Slovenia, Russia and Austria also placed athletes in the top ten.

The senior elites get their turn on Sunday with the Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup. The women start at 10:30am local time with the men taking to the water at 13:30.


Rusia empezó firmemente el fin de semana de Tiszaujvaros con un primero y segundo puesto en la copa europea ETU Triatlón Junior con un formato inusual de carrera-bicicleta-nado-bicicleta-carrera.

Dmitry Esaulav apartó a su compatriota Vyacheslav Pimenov para conseguir el oro aventajándole en siete segundos, mientras que el namibio Abrahm Louw, miembro del programa de desarrollo del deporte ITU, consiguió el bronce.
