Snowies ‘Ready to Rock’ at the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships

In breaking news it has been announced that Adam Thomson, lead singer of Aussie 90s band ‘Chocolate Starfish’, and former Triple M Melbourne’s Sports Reporter Lachlan Wills will host the ITU World Cross Triathlon Championships in the Snowy Mountains in November.  The event will also include the launch of the specially composed anthem ‘Everybody’s Human Race’ written and performed by Thompson in support of the MusiKarma Charity.

Adam Thompson is best known for his success with Australian rock band Chocolate Starfish. With Adam at the helm as the band’s iconic front man, Chocolate Starfish earned two Top 10 singles and two Top 5 albums, with Gold and Platinum album sales for their self-titled debut. This album spawned their number one hit, “You’re So Vain”, and Top 5 hit “Mountain”, and earned them an Australian Music Award for Most Popular Album of 1994.

A highly sought-after entertainer, keynote speaker and solo artist, Adam is ‘the consummate rock ‘n’ roll front man’. ‘If there’s an audience he’ll play up to them, if there’s a balcony he’ll climb it, if there’s energy in the room, he’ll milk it,’ wrote a critic for style magazine Black + White. And it is this iconic energy and showmanship that will have over 2000 athletes, spectators and visitors pumping, in his role as Master of Ceremonies during the ITU World Champs in the Snowy Mountains in November.

“It’s a true honour to be part of such a prestigious and exciting event for the Snowy Mountains – and for Australia,” said Adam. “I’m looking forward to creating a fun atmosphere that engages competitors and spectators alike.”

Robyn Lazenby, event director at In2Adventure the company who won the bid to bring the world championships to Australia, sees this as something very special “the minute we saw Adam ‘capture’ the crowd at a performance at the recent Australian Champs we knew he was the guy we were looking for to make this year’s world champs event incredibly special for athletes and spectators alike”

And it seems that Adam also had a few special surprises up his sleeve when asked to take on the role as MC for the iconic Snowy Mountains event.  Not only will Adam bring his larger than life personality to the festival, he has also written and will perform the soon to be launched ‘Everybody’s Human Race’ World Champs Anthem at the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony taking place in Jindabyne on the 17th of November.

“I love every kind of sport there is, and I wrote ‘Everybody’s Human Race’ to capture the spirit of competition on a world stage. Everyone comes to play as much as to win,” said Adam.

Speaking about the song Robyn told us, “This was the most amazing news.  Not only do we have one of Australia’s best performers to host the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships, thanks to Adam,  we now have an amazing anthem, with a fantastic message that sits so closely with the In2Adventure philosophy of enjoying the ‘experience’ of racing and not purely the winning.

It’s another ‘World First’ for the event as we bring athletes from across the globe together in one kick-ass celebration of life in the Snowy Mountains.  It’s just another dream come true for us, and we can’t wait for the party to start.”
Adam has also announced that he will be joined by co-host Lachlan Wills, former Triple M Melbourne’s hot breakfast sports reporter, who in 2014 famously caught tennis champion, Maria Sharapova’s eye during a press conference at the Australian Open.  The duo will be on site during the four days of competition at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa sharing all the live action with the crowd as well as keeping supporters updated during the live broadcast.

And the good news doesn’t stop there.  Adam’s strong sense of social responsibility has continually led him to direct his energy towards mentoring young people, particularly those for whom opportunities are few. His enduring commitment to empowering youth through music was the catalyst to the creation of MusiKarma – not to ‘give back’, but to ‘give forward’.

The organisation was established to assist young people who are disadvantaged through their life circumstances, particularly those living in regional and remote areas of Australia, and in impoverished areas overseas. This assistance comes in the form of mentorship that can lead to education, training and employment opportunities, using music and related programs as a catalyst for empowerment, engagement and sustainability.

MusiKarma supports the youth mentoring program MPOWER, which harnesses the power of music and the workshop experiences to develop leadership skills that help build the foundation for the best possible future.
Proceeds from the sales of the single ‘Everybody’s Human Race’ at the event will go toward supporting the great work of MusiKarma.

So with just over four months to go, it’s time for Australia and the world to get ready for the biggest party ever seen in the southern hemisphere as an explosion of culture, colour, music, entertainment and world class sporting action, with Adam Thomson at the helm gets set to engulf the Snowy Mountains region from 18th to 20th November 2016.

The ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships and MultiSport Festival is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW and sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union the sole worldwide governing body of the sport of triathlon.
