The Triathlon Championships of the Small States of Europe (TCSSE) held here in Malta last May was voted as the Number ONE International Sports Event held locally throughout 2006. This was the verdict delivered by the Sportswriters Association at the 46th Edition of the Sportivi Nazzjonali held yesterday Saturday 27th January at the Westin Dragonara Resort – a memorable night for Triathlon when Danica Spiteri, Mark Zammit and the Triathlon National Team of the TCSSE, composed of Mark Zammit, Michael Gellel and Dermot Galea, all earned a place in their respective finals. The winners in these categories were Rebecca Madyson (Shooting); William Chetcuti (Shooting) and Team Caudron (Powerboats) respectively.

This was a huge vote of confidence in the Malta Triathlon Association, whose Executive pooled all their ideas, initiative, energy and hands-on experience into the creation of the 7th edition of the TCSSE which saw Danica Spiteri winning the first gold for Malta, Mark Zammit finishing second and the National Team striking another first time gold. It also confirmed the praise which Enrique Quesada, the representative and Technical Delegate of the International Triathlon Union, reserved for the organization of this event.

With this award in the portfolio, the Executive of the Malta Triathlon Association can look forward with confidence to the 2007 Season which will see, among other things, the holding of a Training Camp, conducted by Dermot Galea, winner of the ITU BG Coaching Scholarship, and Gordon Camenzuli, recipient of an IOC Olympic Solidarity Coaching Scholarship.

El Campeonato de Triatlón de los Pequeños Estados de Europa (TCSSE) acogido aquí en Malta en mayo pasado fue votado como el Acontecimiento Deportivo Internacional NÚMERO UNO celebrado en la zona a lo largo de 2006. Este fue el veredicto entregado por la Asociación de Comentaristas Deportivos en la 46 Edición del Sportivi Nazzjonali celebrado ayer sábado 27 de enero, en el Westin Dragonara Resort - una noche memorable para el Triatlón cuando Danica Spiteri, Mark Zammit y el Equipo Nacional de Triatlón del TCSSE, compuesto por Mark Zammit, Michael Gellel y Dermot Galea, ganaron todos un lugar en sus respectivas finales. Los ganadores en esas categorías fueron Rebecca Madyson (Tiro); Guillermo Chetcuti (Tiro) y Equipo Caudron (Motoras) respectivamente.

Esto fue un enorme voto de confianza para la Asociación de Triatlón de Malta, cuyos Directivos reunieron todas sus ideas, iniciativa, energía y la experiencia sobre el terreno en la creación de la 7a edición del TCSSE que vio como Danica Spiteri ganaba el primer oro para Malta, Mark Zammit terminando el segundo y el Equipo Nacional haciéndose también por primera vez con el oro. Esto también confirmó el elogio que Enrique Quesada, el representante y Delegado Técnico de la ITU, dedicó a la organización de este acontecimiento.

Con este premio en el bolsillo, el Director de la Asociación de Triatlón de Malta puede mirar adelante con confianza con una temporada 2007, que verá, entre otras cosas, la nueva propiedad de un Campo de Entrenamiento, dirigido por Dermot Galea, ganador de la Beca ITU BG de Entrenadores, y Gordon Camenzuli, receptor de una Beca Solidaria del CIO.
