World Triathlon

Tambin texto en espaol.  Trinidad and Tobago will be hosting its first official ITU triathlon coach accreditation course on the 30th March.  The International Triathlon Union (ITU), their global partner BG Group and the Trinidad and Tobago Triathlon Federation have jointly arranged the ITU Community Coaching Course in order to raise the number and quality of triathlon coaches in Trinidad and the surrounding islands. The ultimate goal is to assist in the development of talented coaches and athletes capable of qualifying Trinidad and Tobago for the BG Triathlon World Cup Series and the Olympic Games.

The course is part of the ITU and BG Groups 2007 Sport Development Programme.  Trinidad and Tobago was selected as one of the priority countries targeted for Coach Education Support and will see some of the worlds most qualified triathlon experts travel to the Port of Spain to oversee a clinic for a group of regional coaches.

We at ITU are very excited to be able to offer these programmes to emerging triathlon nations as part of our sport development goals, said ITU Sport Development Director, Libby Burrell.  The goal of this programme is to provide developing triathlon federations with the building blocks to grow the sport within their region.

The four-day coaching course will be headed up by Alan Ley, the former Coach Education Manager for the US Triathlon Federation and now ITU Sport Development Manager, with support from Olympic coach, Gale Bernhardt, and Tracey Shelley.  They will be covering the fundamental principles of triathlon coaching and skills progression for the novice and intermediate level triathletes. 

Since we became the ITUs global partner last June we have been working closely with our local triathlon organisation to improve opportunities available through the Trinidad and Tobago Triathlon Federation, commented Aleem Hosein, Head of Government and Public Affairs, BG Group Trinidad and Tobago.  We are delighted that the first ITU Community Coaching Course will be going ahead in March and we hope that this will ultimately help increase triathlon standards and help build future champions who can go on to represent our country at the Olympic Games.

The ITU is encouraging coaches interested in the course to register with their national federation.

Trinidad y Tobago acoger su primer curso oficial de acreditacin para entrenadores de triatln de la ITU el 30 de Marzo. La ITU, su patrocinador BG Group y la Federacin de Triatln de Trinidad y Tobago han organizado de forma conjunta el ITU Community Coaching Course con el objetivo de incrementar el nmero y la calidad de los entrenadores de triatln en Trinidad y las islas vecinas. La meta final es ayudar en el desarrollo de entrenadores y atletas promesas capaces de clasificar a Trinidad y Tobago para la Copa del Mundo BG de Triatln y los Juegos Olmpicos.

El curso es parte del Programa de Desarrollo del Deporte de la ITU y de BG Group para 2007. Trinidad y Tobago fue seleccionado como uno de los pases prioritarios entre los objetivos del Apoyo a la Educacin del Entrenador y que ver a algunos de los mejores expertos de triatln a nivel mundial trasladarse hasta Port of Spain para supervisar las jornadas para entrenadores de la regin.

Desde la ITU estamos muy emocionados por poder ofrecer estos programas a los pases emergentes en el triatln como parte de nuestras metas de desarrollo del deporte, coment la Directora para el Desarrollo del Deporte de la ITU, Libby Burrell. La meta de este programa es proveer a las federaciones de triatln en desarrollo de los medios para permitir el crecimiento del triatln es su regin.

El curso de cuatro das ser dirigido por Alan Ley, antiguo Director de la Formacin de Entrenadores para la Federacin de Triatln de EEUU y ahora integrado en el departamento de Desarrollo del Deporte de la ITU, con el apoyo de los entrenadores olmpicos, Gale Bernhardt, y Tracey Shelley Tratarn los principios fundamentales del entrenamiento en triatln as como el progreso en las habilidades de los triatletas de nivel bsico e intermedio.

Desde que nos hemos convertido en el patrocinador global de la ITU en Junio pasado hemos estado trabajando de cerca con nuestra organizacin local de triatln para aumentar las posibilidades disponibles de la Federacin de Triatln de Trinidad y Tobago dijo Aleem Hosein, Director de Gobierno y Relaciones Pblicas de BG Group Trinidad y Tobago. Estamos encantados de que el primer ITU Community Coaching Course se vaya a celebrar en marzo y esperamos que esto vaya a ayudar definitivamente a incrementar los estndares del triatln y ayude a crear futuros campeones que puedan representar a nuestro pas en los Juegos Olmpicos.

La ITU anima a los entrenadores interesados en el curso a inscribirse con su federacin nacional.
