The beautiful city of Montevideo welcomed coaches from all over Uruguay and neighboring countries of Argentina and Brazil to participate in the long waited ITU/PATCO Level I Coaches Course. The course was a landmark project aimed for the development of triathlon for the growing Uruguayan Triathlon Union (UTU).
With an attendance of twenty-eight coaches, ITU Development Facilitators Claudia Beristain (MEX) and Rodrigo Milazzo (BRA) spent five days instructing theoretical and practical sessions, combined with very productive discussions, all of which was organized in a way to promote the best triathlon coaching learning experience for the participants.
The course was a benchmark for triathlon in Uruguay and played an important role for the development of coaches. As the number of triathlon enthusiasts in the country has grown, the UTU noticed the importance of providing local sports coaches a chance to improve their triathlon specific coaching skills and was promptly answered by PATCO/ITU.
The proposed practical sessions were performed at various facilities in different nearby locations around the town, providing participants a chance to get to know a little more of the cozy Montevideo, while the theoretical sessions took place at the host hotel provided by UTU, who kindly arranged everything necessary for the presentation of the course.
Liber Garcia is the president of the UTU and offered exceptional conditions for the course. By the end of it, he was very pleased with the general outcome due to the exceptional positive feedback from all the participants, which will surely increase the involvement of coaches with UTU and its projects. Altogether, this translated into a significant development for Uruguayan triathlon.
Although the activities for the year 2013 have ended, PATCO together with ITU will continue to promote sport development activities in the Americas region throughout the year of 2014, benefiting other emerging national federations.
