In honor of International Women’s Day, we salute all of our talented women and take a look back at some spectacular highlights these incredible athletes accomplished in 2013.

Non Stanford doubles up
Never before had a woman won back to back Under23 and elite World Championship titles. Not until Non Stanford that is. The dynamite twenty-something first scorched the field in 2012 in the U23 race, announcing her as a threat for the elites. Then she backed up her performance with podium after podium in the 2013 WTS season. Stanford capped the year off with a win in London that saw her crowned the champion of the world.

Gwen Jorgensen tops three WTS podiums
Gwen Jorgensen made history when she became the first American woman to ever win a World Triathlon Series event this year. As an additional treat, the Olympian did it on home soil at the WTS San Diego. Then Jorgensen followed it up in the very next race with a win in Yokohama. To top it all off, she added a hat trick of golds to the medal count with a win in Stockholm with yet another awe-inspiring run split.

Aileen Morrison puts Ireland on the map
Back in 2010, Aileen Morrison put Ireland on the WTS map when she charged to a bronze medal in Hamburg to earn Ireland it’s sole medal in World Triathlon Series history. This year, she did it again, running herself into silver medal position at the London Grand Final. The medal was Ireland’s only elite medal at a Grand Final to date.

Shirin Gerami breaks barriers
In one of the most memorable races of the year, Shirin Gerami shook up women’s triathlon forever by becoming the first Iranian female to compete in a triathlon World Championships. The path to compete was paved with obstacles from federation approval to race-time garment changes, but nothing could slow this remarkable lady. Gerami’s performance in London set the example for women everywhere to not only participate in sport but fight for your dreams despite its challenges.
