(Vancouver, Canada October 9th, 2007)  Hongni Wang Commits Anti-Doping Rule Violation. The International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced today that Hongni Wang, a triathlete from the Peoples Republic of China, committed an anti-doping rule violation.  The violation occurred during an out of competition doping control conducted on August 24th, 2007.

Ms. Wangs anti-doping rule violation was a result of the analytical report of exogenous metabolites of testosterone, a substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List.

In response to the Chinese Triathlon Sport Federations (CTSA) notification of the adverse analytical finding of her A sample, Ms. Wang exercised her right under the ITU Doping Rules to have the B sample analyzed in the presence of a representative.

The B Sample was opened on September 27th, 2007 and was analyzed using the ISO accredited methods.  The analytical result confirmed the presence of exogenous metabolites of testosterone in the urine.

On October 4th, 2007, the athlete was notified of the results of the analysis of the B Sample and offered the choice between a hearing or the acceptance of a 2-year suspension, as provided for under the rules.

On October 6th, 2007, Ms. Wang waived her right to a hearing and accepted the 2-year suspension.

Ms. Wang is therefore suspended from competition from October 6th 2007 until October 5th, 2009.

ITU is the world governing body for the sport of triathlon with over 125 affiliated national federations worldwide.

ITU prides itself in being a clean sport based on more than 800 tests which have had negative results in 2007.

We realize how important out-of-competition testing is leading up to the Olympic Games and ITU is committed to finding any athletes who do not respect the rules.
