Presentación del equipo olímpico de Alemania

Germany names team for London 2012 Olympic Games

Se ha anunciado oficialmente quiénes serán los triatletas que representarán a Alemania en los Juegos de Londres 2012. El equipo está encabezado por el actual campeón olímpico Jan Frodeno y la cuatro veces atleta olímpica Anja Dittmer .

El equipo masculino está formado por Jan Frodeno, Steffen Justus y Maik Petzold, y el femenino, por Anja Dittmer, Svenja Bazlen y Anne Haug.

La de Londres será la segunda participación de Frodeno en los Juegos Olímpicos. Recordemos que en Beijing 2008, el atleta se adjudicó el oro olímpico.  Petzold, también representa a su país por segunda vez. En los Juegos de Atenas 2004, Petzold llegó décimo noveno. Justus debuta en terreno olímpico en Londres 2012.

Dittmer ingresa al exclusivo club de triatletas que compite en un cuarto Juego Olímpico consecutivo. Dittmer es la única mujer, y se suma al canadiense Simon Whitfield y al estadounidense Hunter Kemper. Dittmer fue la primera de este trio en clasificar por cuarta vez, luego de llegar al podio del evento Mundial de Triatlón ITU Londres 2011, cumpliendo así con el criterio de clasificación olímpica automática de Alemania.

Dos atletas que debutan en la arena olímpica acompañarán a Dittmer. Ellas son Bazlen y Haug. Estas atletas fueron las dos atletas alemanas mejor rankeadas, ambas aseguraron sus plazas automáticamente en el evento Mundial de Triatlón ITU Madrid 2011. Haug fue cuarta, su mejor resultado en Campeonatos Mundiales, y Bazlen décimo segunda.

La presentación oficial del equipo tuvo lugar en la sede de la Unión Alemana de Triatlón en Frankfurt. Los seis atletas hablaron con los medios de prensa presentes acerca de este deporte, y de los próximos Juegos Olímpicos. El Presidente de la UAT, Dr Martin Engelhardt, y el Director Deportivo Wolfgang Thiel también se dirigieron a los asistentes. Los atletas estrenaron los trajes de triatlón del equipo olímpico alemán que lucirán en Londres 2012.
