King of Spain accepts position as Honorary President for the Aviles Duathlon Championships

Spain’s King Felipe VI has accepted an invitation to be the Honorary Chairman of the 2021 World Triathlon Duathlon Championships, to be held in November in the Spanish city of Aviles. The charming coastal city is located in the region of Asturias, from where the older daughter of the King and Heir to the throne holds the title of Princess of Asturias.
His Majesty accepted the request made by the president of the Spanish Federation of Triathlon, José Hidalgo, the Spanish Royal House announced.
“We are absolutely delighted and is a great honour for us that His Majesty accepted to be Honorary President of the organising committee, and will be extremely pleased if the King, the Queen and the Princess of Asturias - the older daughter of the couple - will attend the event”, said World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado.
The 2021 World Triathlon Duathlon Championships will take place in Aviles on November 6-7, and over 1500 participants representing over 35 countries from all over the world are expected to compete in the Elite, Junior, Para and Age Group events. His Majesty the King of Spain was also named Honorary President of the 1016 Duathlon World Championships held in the same city.
