Level 1 Technical Officials Seminar held in the Philippines

A few weeks before Manile, in the Philippine Islands, organises the 2019 South East Asian Games next November, the International Triathlon Union, along with the Triathlon Association of Philippines and PHISGOC hosted a Level 1 Technical Officials seminar to train up National Technical Officials that will be officiating in the Games. Twenty participants attended the course, held in the city of Subic Bay (PHI), from every part of the country, and also three participants from Mongolia were invited.

“The participants all showed eagerness to learn which made facilitating this seminar so rewarding.” said facilitator, Melody Tan from Malaysia, who is also one of the ITU Technical Delegates for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Most participants had previously officiated in local triathlon and duathlon events and had all kinds of different backgrounds.

“It has been a really good experience for me. The participants are so cool and friendly and hope to see everyone again soon”, said after the Seminar Battulga Tsolmon, one of the participants.

“This seminar is very timely considering that our country will be hosting the 30th South East Asian Games from November 30 to December 11, 2019.  It is a great opportunity for our aspiring TOs to be able to undergo and hopefully pass this Level 1 course to have a chance and somehow enhance their officiating skills in Triathlon. I hope that this course is just the beginning and we will all continue up to the last level. Thank you to our mentor Ms. Melody Tan for unselfishly sharing her knowledge and skills and patiently mentoring us all throughout the 2-day seminar. Many thanks also to Triathlon Association of the Philippines for hosting this seminar”, explained Gloria Quintos, from the Philippine Sports Commission.

Ronald So, from the Local Government Unit, Province of Capiz & Capiz Halaran Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc, said: “Indeed, this training is very relevant not only in the Triathlon community but as well as for the upgrading and updating of our skills to further develop the sports program of our province.  The knowledge and skills that I have learned will also be cascaded to our local athletes and coaches. Especially that our local government & business sector are serious on the sports development program.  Thank you for the opportunity to learn and the time that you shared to us, our mentor Ms. Melody Tan, Triathlon Association of the Philippines and the International Triathlon Union”.
