On June 4-5, a total of 18 TOs attended a Level 1 Technical Officials course that was facilitated by David Hoong. Some of the participants were experienced NTOs who have officiated at events for many years but did not have the opportunity to upgrade their qualification at an ITU Seminar. They were active in group and practical sessions and raised questions about various scenarios to get a better understanding of the rules and roles of technical officials.

One of the participants, Mr Huai Ningning, who is also the course coordinator, had full praise for the seminar.

“There was so much to learn from the course – from the roles of each technical official to the details of swim, transition, bike, run and many more… I now have better understanding of how to spot infringements and impose penalties at every stage of the race,” said Ningning.

“The questions and issues raised show that they are knowledgeable in officiating events. This seminar systematically showed the participants from ITU covering all aspects of a race to post-race duties. There were no dull moments throughout the seminar,” commented David Hoong.

Those NTOs then officiated at the 2014 ITU Shizaishan Premium Asian Cup to apply the knowledge they learned from the seminar.
