Techinical Officials Nomination for Youth Olympic Games

The ITU Sport Department announced an application system for National Federations to nominate Technical Officials for the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore earlier this year. The criteria included that officials may be no older than 35 years old in 2010 and must have previous triathlon officiating experience.

The age limitation was in line with the mission statement of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (SYOGOC): “To create the inaugural Youth Olympic Games with a memorable experience integrating sport, culture and education – involving and inspiring Singapore and the world’s Youth to embrace the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.”

ITU has received 23 applications from all around the world and had an evaluation based on the criteria as above and additionally as follows: 11 ITOs to be nominated by ITU based on the allotment from IOC; regional fairness based on the size of the sport on the continent; gender equity, and, each National Federation may have no more than one official.

Following this assessment, the following individuals are nominated to represent ITU on the Youth Olympic Games as International Technical Officials (in alphabetic order by country):

  • 8. Ahmed Al Malki, OMA
  • 9. Travis Campbell, RSA
  • 10. Jason Gooding, TRI
  • 11. Olga Blokhina, UZB


“I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to the National Federations who play such an important role in selecting this strong team,” said Gergely Markus, ITU Sport Director and the Event Delegate of the triathlon competitions of the Youth Olympic Games. “I am sure this historical event will leave a strong legacy in our sport through this young and dynamic group of technical officials.”
