El relevo de la Antorcha Olímpica se aproxima a su gran momento final

The Olympic torch enters London with one week to go until 2012 Olympic Games

Falta exactamente una semana para la ceremonia de apertura de los Juegos Olímpicos Londres 2012, y la antorcha olímpica será transportada por helicóptero hasta la Torre de Londres, donde descenderá esta noche y comenzará su recorrido de siete días por la ciudad sede.

Hasta la fecha, el relevo de la antorcha olímpica- presentado por Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB y Samsung- ha visitado alrededor de 1000 comunidades del Reino Unido y celebrado los logros de aproximadamente 7000 portadores. En total, 10,2 millones de personas han salido a las calles para ver el paso de la antorcha.

En Londres, etapa final del recorrido, 982 portadores se turnarán para llevar la antorcha por alrededor de 200 millas de las calles capitalinas. El último día del relevo- 27 de julio- veremos a 18 personas portar la antorcha, siete de las cuales navegarán con ella por el río Támesis a bordo del Gloriana, la embarcación real.

Sebastian Coe, Presidente del LOCOG manifestó lo siguiente: “Gracias a todos los que alentaron y vivaron a los portadores de la antorcha en su paso por el Reino Unido, ayudando así a establecer el clima de emoción previo al inicio de los Juegos. Faltan once días para que se encienda el caldero con la Antorcha Olímpica en el transcurso de la ceremonia de apertura. Es fantástico ver cómo cada vecindario en Londres se apronta para dar la bienvenida a la antorcha y celebrar la llegada de gente inspiradora.”

Millones de personas en todo el Reino Unido se están preparando para sumarse a los festejos del 27 de julio. El día comenzará con el llamado de miles de campanas en todo el país, que tañerán rápida y sonoramente por tres minutos desde las 8:12am.  “Todas las Campanas” pertenece a Martin Creed, artista ganador del premio Turner.

Todos pueden ser parte de esta movida haciendo sonar cualquier clase de campana por tres minutos- desde expertos hasta niños entusiastas con campanillas de mano, de bicicletas o puertas.

La última actualización de la aplicación móvil gratuita oficial de “Londres 2012 Join in” permite que todos sean parte de la secuencia de campanas de Martin Creed, moviendo sus teléfonos como si fueran campanas. Encuentra más información aquí

El viernes 27 de Julio marca el último día del relevo de la antorcha olímpica Londres 2012. Luego de ser transportada a través del laberinto más antiguo del mundo en Hampton Court Palace, la llama olímpica abordará la embarcación real Gloriana donde se encenderá un caldero ceremonial. En el transcurso de la mañana los siete portadores a bordo del Gloriana encenderán la Antorcha del caldero y cada uno llevará la llama por ocho minutos. En el momento final de este relevo verá al último portador del Gloriana llevar la antorcha a la Torre de Londres, aproximadamente a las 12:45pm. Luego, la llama permanecerá oculta hasta su reaparición en la Ceremonia de Apertura.

La cobertura mundial de Danny Boyle con su “Isles of Wonder” de la Ceremonia de Apertura comenzará a las 9pm (hora local) y tendrá una audiencia estimada en 1 billón de personas en todo el mundo.
