ITU organizes 4 classification seminars as part of the education for TOs

With Paratriathlon making its debut in Rio 2016, and after a process of adjustments to the classification system, it was time for ITU to boost the education for classifiers around the world, as part of the Technical Officials training.

During the last months, ITU has organized four classification courses in four different continents, having a total of 33 participants from 17 nations out of which 16 were classifiers from different levels seeking re-certification. Four facilitators were involved in the two-day courses.

The courses took place in conjunction with the CAMTRI Paratriathlon Continental Championships in March in USA; with the Gold Coast World Paratriathlon Series in April in Australia; in conjunction with the Yokohama World Paratriathlon Series in May and in Kitzbühel on the occasion of the ETU Paratriathlon Continental Championships.

Trainees were able to be present for the actual classification assessments with the consent of the athletes who were very cooperative and happy to allow new classifiers to observe classification.

ITU would like to thank USAT, Triathlon Australia and the GOLDOC, JTU and ETU and the Austrian Triathlon Federation for facilitating all the logistics for the courses at the various locations, and all the attendees. ITU is very pleased with the high number of trainees, which will allow our organization to continue growing the pool of classifiers.
