ITU COACH EDUCATION PROGRAM

The ITU Coach Education Program is currently under revision and the new curriculum will be formally launched in 2013. Below is a summary of the revised program currently under construction:

The ITU Coach Education Program allows for vertical progression throughout the accreditation levels. Coaches enter the ITU Coach Education Program at Level 0 Community Coach and then progress through the Program by completing coach training up to the level that they are interested in coaching at.  For example, a coach who is only interested in providing entry level triathlon program as an alternative to other programs offered by their local recreation centre, might just complete the ITU Level 0 Community Coach accreditation program. Similarly, a physical education teacher who is only interested in providing an entry level triathlon program as an alternative to other sports offered by their school might also just complete the ITU Level 0 Community Coach accreditation program. In contrast, a coach who is interested in coaching athletes to compete in international competition, will enter the ITU coaching pathway at Level 0 Community coach but then work to successfully complete each of the accreditation levels in turn, progressively increasing their triathlon coaching competence as they do so.

In terms of the Coach Extension Programs, any accredited coach (i.e., Level 0 Community Coaches or above) can complete the Paratriathlon Coach Extension Program. However, coaches must have a minimum ITU Level 2 Competitive Coach accreditation or equivalent in order to undertake the ITU Level 3 High Performance Coach Extension Program or the ITU Facilitator Extension Program. A flow chart illustrating how coaches may progress along the ITU Coach Education Program pathway is provided below.
