Event Information


The ITU Triathlon Championships Rotterdam 2016 are organized by the Nederlandse Triathlon Federation (NTB) in cooperation with sports marketing agency TIG Sports.

TIG Sports specializes in organizing major international sporting events as the Local Organising Committee and/or Promoter. TIG Sports is active across several different sports (Golf, Beach Volleyball, Short-Track Speed Skating and Sailing). Recent events include the KLM Open, 2014 Hockey World Championships, 2014 FISA Rowing World Championships and the 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.


Rotterdam is the second biggest city in the Netherlands. Located at the Meuse and with its port, Rotterdam is a dynamic, young and international orientated city with a lot of attention for sports.

The city is praised for its ambitious architectural projects and is constantly renewing itself and surprising citizens and visitors with cultural events and sports events.

Rotterdam, also known as ‘the city of sports’, is home of football club Feyenoord Rotterdam and has recently hosted many major international sports events. In 2010 the Grand Départ of the Tour de France took place in Rotterdam. In recent years the city hosted world championships in gymnastics, judo, bmx and beach volleyball. The NN Rotterdam Marathon, the CHIO Rotterdam and the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament are popular annual events in Rotterdam.

  • 15:30 – 18:00 ITU Elite Paratriathlon World Championship
  • 16:45 – 18:45 ITU Open Paratriathlon World Championship
  • 19:00 – 21:00 Medal Ceremony Paratriathlon World Championship

Please note: Entries for the ITU event have to be submitted to the ITU using the on-line entries system. Only the National Federations can enter the athletes, therefore the athletes have to enter the races via their National Federation.


The skyline of Rotterdam is the spectacular setting for the ITU Triathlon Championships Rotterdam 2016. It promises to be a special venue for triathletes.

For competitors in the Paratriathlon World Championships the swimming in the Veerhaven (750m) will be followed by 20 km of cycling (hand bike/tandem) and 5 km of running (wheeling) in the Scheepvaart quarter and in the park near the Euromast. The finish for the para athletes will be at the Veerhaven.
