Around the World in 20 Tweets

This week we take a trip around the digital world, to get a glimpse of what’s been happening in the lives of ITU’s top athletes. A triathlon superstar joined the wonderful world of Twitter, a photographic legend made his 500th magazine cover and we even had an ITU athlete appearing on Vogue TV – proving that there is a glamorous side to all that hard work and training.

British triathlete Hollie Avil, was chosen to be one of the top models for the British Olympic Team’s athlete kits, designed by Adidas. The promo video below was featured on Vogue TV.

how bloody cool is this…?? @Hollie_Avil - little legend!

Current World Champion and triathlon superstar Javier Gomez, finally succumbed to the pressure and joined Twitter. It seems whatever Gomez does, he does it 100%.

I’m impressed @Jgomeznoya . Since I started following you just over 24 hours ago you’ve posted 18 times! Don’t burn yourself out.

Gomez and Simon Whitfield had an exchange on Javier’s new found hobbie and Simon Whitfield’s recent 10 km run. Whitfield finished second in a 10km race in his home base of Victoria in a time of 30.26. However as Simon notes, his time was slower than the devastating run split of 30.09 that Gomez posted in Sydney last month (and this was after Gomez had to work hard on the bike on his own after a crash in the slippery conditions).

@simonwhitfield Hey buddy!Here I am to follow you…Mr Whitfield wink Hope to see you in Madrid…By the way,good 10K run,congrats!!

@simonwhitfield simon whitfield
@Jgomeznoya good run.. except it’s about 1min slower then you ran off the bike (and your crash) in Sydney #pleasewaitforme

ITU Photographer Delly Carr, passed a milestone and made his 500th triathlon magazine cover this week. Impressive work from the Australian great, who is gifted with the lens. We hope he’ll have many more to come.

Formula 1 star Jenson Button kept us informed of his continued preparation for his race in London. Button will line out among the thousands of triathletes who want to get their chance to race on the Olympic course during the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Series London event.

Big thanks for a great bike session in Richmond & cold but good wetsuit lake swim! Now on my way 2 do the business in Turkey

@JensonButton Jenson Button
Sorry ‘a great ride’

While it might be glamour for some, Jan Frodeno had to “slum it” on a recent trip to Hamburg, to promote the Hamburg leg of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series.

@janfrodeno Jan Frodeno
As close to business class as Air Berlin gets;) off to Hamburg for the day.

In last weekend’s racing Brendan Sexton and Sarah Haskins claimed their first world cup wins, and are were delighted with their performances. Also Hunter Kemper is clearly focused on his Olympic goals for 2012.

Finally got a win! ITU WC in Monterrey was a tough race but held on in the heat. and thanks everyone for the twitter love. Your support means as much as the result. This is just the start!

@sarahhaskinstri Sarah Haskins
So happy with my 1st WC win today! Thanks Flora Duffy for all the help and all my USA teammates!

A WC win in Japan 3 weeks ago & another podium - 3rd - yesterday in Mexico. Feels good to be back leading the charge for the U.S. men

Finally, it was a sad day for sport yesterday, hearing of the death of cyclist Wouter Weylandt in the Giro d’Italia. Jan Frodeno summed up the sadness of the occasion, and the dangers inherent in the sport. Safe riding to all those who are training and racing

@janfrodeno Jan Frodeno
RIP Wouter Weylandt! Makes me realize how fragile life on a bike is.. #TrulySadDayForSports

@heljinx Helen Jenkins
