ASTC Facilitator's Course in Malaysia

The second ITU Facilitators course was held 8-10 July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the Olympic Sports Hotel. The course was conducted by Alan Ley and Thanos Nikopoulos. Mr. Cheah Choon Nam, the President of Triathlon Association of Malaysia, and Mr. Ki, ITU-ASTC Sport Development coordinator, organized the course.

The facilitators course included a total of 30 hours of instruction and is designed to “Train the Trainers” to conduct ITU level 1 or 2 Coaches and Technical Official courses. The candidates are nominated by their Federation and must possess a Level 2 Coaching or Technical Official Certification before being selected for the course. The 15 candidates attending the course in Kuala Lumpur were from Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Oman, Iran, Philippines and Malaysia. Also present at the course were Mr. David Hoong, the Asian representative to ITU, and Datuk Valwant Singh Kler.

The course candidates are required to complete pre-course assignments and during the course must present on topics and conduct practical sessions.  The candidates learn applied facilitation and presentation skills, and also participate in classroom sessions on communication, learning styles, group work and specific ITU course recommendations and administrative tasks.

After the course concluded, Datuk Balwant Singh Kler spoke on behalf of Mr. Yu, the ASTC President, and thanked ITU for conducting the course in Asia.
