Awilda Harrington was recently named Chairperson of the USA Triathlon (USAT) Women’s Committee. She brings to the committee much experience through her participation on various boards and associations dealing with women’s issues and concerns and through her successful business career in manufacturing and consulting. As part of her preparation for this role she has volunteered at USAT sanctioned local and national events, familiarizing her with the role women have traditionally played in the association. As Chairperson, Awilda is leading the committee towards its goals which include creating a resource for female athletes of all levels and socio-economic backgrounds, and mentoring professional growth for women in the sport of triathlon. The WC has already met its goal of equalizing women to men participation and is now concentrating on the quality of training, and opportunities available for women in positions of authority and decision making within the associations that govern the sport. The WC, through Awilda’s leadership, will grow in the direction complementing committees overseeing women’s opportunities throughout the rest of the world.

Awilda resides in St Petersburg, Florida with her husband Brian. Awilda had the opportunity to meet with ITU President Marisol Casado recently in Madrid.
