La temporada de triatlón 2016 será recordada por siempre: la Serie Mundial de Triatlón, las Copas Mundo, los eventos de Campeonatos Mundiales, los Juegos Olímpicos y Paralímpicos. 2016 ha sido un año pleno, ajetreado, lleno de momentos inolvidables.

Si pasamos revista, ¿cuáles han sido los momentos más destacados?

A lo largo de las próximas semanas estaremos publicando artículos sobre lo “Mejor del año 2016”. Estaremos repasando las actuaciones mejores, las finales más electrizantes, celebrando un año que quedará para siempre en nuestra memoria.

Las actuaciones de Cook en esta temporada demuestran que el equipo femenino de los EEUU sigue sumando miembros.

En el evento de la SMT en Edmonton el frío la temperatura era ciertamente despiadada haciendo las cosas más duras para las mujeres elite. Esta condición climática es siempre un desafío para los mejores, desafío que Cook aceptó y del que salió victoriosa.

La atleta de los EEUU dominó el circuito sprint desde que salió del agua con comodidad para luego ubicarse en el pelotón líder en el trayecto en bicicleta. Y en la última disciplina Cook superó a sus compatriotas Katie Zaferes y Sarah True para quedarse con su primer título en una carrera de la SMT.

Predecimos un gran futuro para esta atleta a la que observaremos de cerca en la próxima temporada.

Mención honorífic: Taylor Knibb (USA) en la Copa Mundo de Montreal

Es cierto que Knibb es joven, y también es cierto que puede medirse con las mejores… y cuando decimos las mejores, hablamos de atletas como la mismísima Flora Duffy, actual Campeona Mundial.

En la Copa Mundo de Montreal, Knibb aceptó el reto de pedalear junto a Duffy. Recordemos que Duffy es una de las ciclistas más poderosas del circuito, sin embargo, Knibb formó dupla con ella y finalmente la secundó ganando la medalla de plata y debutando en el podio de Copas Mundo.

Y los éxitos continuaron; luego ganó el título Mundial Juvenil en Cozumel.

Si 2016 es el año en el que dio el gran salto, será emocionante ver lo que le depara la temporada 2017.
