The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has opened bidding for the 2014 ITU World Multisport Championship events. This includes:
- ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships and Series Events
- ITU Duathlon World Championships and Series Events
- ITU Long Distance Duathlon World Championships
- ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships and Series Events
- ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships.
The bidding is open to host cities and National Federations wishing to hold one any of these multisport events.
Marisol Casado, ITU President and IOC Member, said:
“ITU is a strong supporter of all its multisport disciplines, as they all play a key role spreading triathlon’s message around the world, and therefore we welcome bids for the 2014 multisport world title events.
“With only a select few cities able to call themselves ITU World Championship hosts each year and with our sports growing reach, we believe all ITU World Championship events can have a positive impact on a cities image, regional economy and social legacy.”
ITU multisport events feature a significant prize purse and media and internet coverage which makes hosting attractive for sports tourism and the global brand of the host cities. The calendar of ITU multisports is designed to span all continents and promote global participation.
Cities wishing to host are required to submit bid documents in conjunction with their respective National Federations by 13 April 2012.
