First National Federation's accredited with ITU ATOEP
Triathlon Australia, Triathlon Canada and the Spanish Triathlon Federation are the first National Federations to have their Technical Official’s accreditation programmes approved by ITU’s Accredited Technical Officials’ Education Programme.
ITU’s ATOEP targets developed national federations with an existing technical officials’ education programme and provides the opportunity for these NFs to have their existing program accredited. Overall this is part of the ITU’s aim to improve the pathway for TO development, and help grow and maintain ITU’s global technical official database that was created last year.
“This programme has been officially opened with the accreditation of the national technical officials education programmes of these three national federations, and it’s another exciting and major achievement for ITU Technical Education,” said ITU’s Senior Manager of Technical Operations Thanos Nikopoulos.
To be approved with ITU’s ATOEP national federations must meet the following four regulations, the NF’s technical official’s levels have to match at one point with the ITU Level 1 (National Technical Official), the NF’s technical official education programme has to include a three (3) level education pathway for its NTOs, the competition rules of the NF must match with ITU’s competition rules and the NF structure has to comply with ITU constitution. The accreditation process will be articulated in several phases, request and programme submission, programme evaluation, accreditation, control by ITU and then revision.
Once accredited, NF’s will then inform ITU about the NTO courses they stage, with the place, date, programme and facilitator(s)’ names. At the end of each calendar year, these NFs can submit to ITU a list with all new NTOs who have complied with all requirements, including officiating in an ITU event. ITU’s Sport Department will then include these technical officials in the ITU Technical Officials’ database, after it is approved by the ITU Technical Committee, at the start of the next calendar year.
