Harrop back in business.

También texto en español. Athens Olympic silver medallist, Loretta Harrop made an impressive return to racing today following the birth of her first child just five months ago.

Setting herself the goal of being able to race in the sprint event named in memory of her brother Luke tragically killed in 2002, Harrop today finished fourth in the Gold Coast Triathlon – Luke Harrop Memorial.

It was the first time Harrop has raced in almost 16 months with the Olympic silver medallist describing it as, “hard but fun.”

“It was really good fun out there racing amongst all the familiar faces. The was always going to be a special race for me and it’s just nice to be out there again.”

“A lot of people do this race to honour Luke and that makes it even more special to me and my family.”

Watching from the sidelines was Harrop’s husband, Brad Jones, son Hayden her father Russell and sister Rebecca.

Harrop lead the opening 750m swim and more than half the following 20km cycle leg before being caught by a group of six triathletes which included former ITU world triathlon champion Leanda Cave (GBR) and ITU world championship bronze medallist Felicity Abram (Aust). In the following 5km run UK athlete Liz Blatchford made an early break to claim the victory from Abram and Michelle Dillon (GBR).

Harrop finished fourth to mark an impressive comeback to a sport she had dominated for more than a decade before deciding to start a family.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Brad Kahelfeldt backed up from a second at last weekend’s Australian Sprint Titles to claim his first victory of the 2007 Australian triathlon season.

Kahelfeldt was a late entry into the event wanting to race to honour Luke who was a good friend of his.

“I knew Luke and I wanted to be here for him,” Kahelfeldt said.

“It’s great to get a win, my first of the year.”

Harrop will join Kahelfeldt to compete in the Australian team to contest the Mooloolaba BG Triathlon World Cup on March 25.

Harrop de vuelta al trabajo

La medallista olímpica de plata de Atenas, Loretta Harrop, hizo una impresionante vuelta a la competición después del nacimiento de su hijo hace 5 meses.

Poniéndose como meta el poder correr en la carrera en memoria de su hermano Luke trágicamente muerto en 2002, Harrop terminó en cuarta posición hoy en el Triatlón Gold Coast en Memoria de Luke Harrop.

Ha sido la primera vez que Harrop corre en casi 16 meses lo que la medallista olímpica describió como “duro pero divertido”.

“Ha sido realmente divertido estar corriendo rodeado de caras familiares. Siempre será una carrera especial para mí, es genial es de vuelta.”

“Un montón de gente participa en esta carrera para honrar a Luke lo que lo hace aún más especial para mi y mi familia.”

Mirando desde el lateral estaba el marido de Harrop, Brad Jones, su hijo Hayden, su padre Rusell y su hermana Rebecca.

Harrop lideró los 750m. natación y más de la mitad de los 20 Km. Bici que la siguieron antes de ser alcanzada por un grupo de seis triatletas entre los que estaban la antigua Campeona del Mundo ITU de Triatlón Leanda Cave (GBR) y la medallista de bronce del campeonato del mundo ITU Felicity Abram (AUS). En los siguientes 5 Km. carrera la atleta Liz Blatchford hizo una escapada para hacerse con la victoria por delante de Abram y Michelle Dillon (GBR).

Harrop terminó cuarta en una impresionante vuelta al deporte que dominó durante más de una década antes de decidir formar una familia.

El medallista de oro de los Juegos de la Commonwealth Brad Kahelfeldt obtuvo su primera victoria de 2007 en los campeonatos de Australia de Sprint del último fin de semana.

Kahelfeldt se inscribió de los últimos en la carrera queriendo corer para honrar a Luke, quien era un buen amigo suyo.

“Conocía a Luke y he querido estar aquí por él,” dijo Kahelfeldt.

“Es genial hacerse con la victoria, la priemra del año.”

Harrop se unirá a Kahelfeldt parta competir en el equipo de Australia el Copa del Mundo BG de Triatlón de Mooloolaba, el 25 de Marzo.
