World Triathlon

The beautiful high-altitude venue of Potchefstroom, South Africa will play host to the continents first ever Continental Triathlon Camp this week.  Running from December 3rd to the 10th, the final continental training camp of the season is coordinated through the ITU Sport Development Programme in conjunction with ITUs global partner BG Group.

In total 31 participants, athletes aged 15 to 17 and coaches, from seven African nations will come together in the popular international training venue to share their knowledge in triathlon training and coaching practices. 

“Africa has an abundance of young talent and with the increased exposure to high level triathlon coaching and opportunities such as the ITU-BG Africa Junior Camp 2007 we can expect young triathletes from Africa to have more of a presence on the world stage in the future”, said ITU Sport Development Director, Libby Burrell.

ITU development coaches Jamie Turner from Australia and Bobby McGee from the United States will lead the camp with participants from Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.  They will be joined by five assistant coaches that have obtained ITU Coaching Accreditation from certified coaching courses held earlier this year.

As part of the ongoing sport development mission to empower the national triathlon federations to provide top-level coaching and knowledge transfer, each country attending the camp will have a national federation coach present to observe and gain valuable experience to apply to their own national programmes.

The 2007 Continental Triathlon Camp in Africa is one of five annual regional camps put together by the ITU sport development team targeted to inspiring young athletes.

El hermoso lugar de gran altitud de Potchefstroom, Sudfrica albergar el primer Campamento de Triatln Continental de la historia de este continente esta semana. Se llevar a cabo del 3 al 10 de Diciembre, el ltimo campus de entrenamiento de la temporada ser coordinado por el Programa de Desarrollo Deportivo de la ITU en unin con el patrocinador de la ITU, el Grupo BG. 

En total 31 participantes, atletas con una edad comprendida entre los 15 y los 17 aos y entrenadores, llegados de siete naciones africanas se reunirn para compartir su conocimiento en el entrenamiento del triatln.

frica tiene gran cantidad de jvenes talentos y con el aumento de conferencias sobre el entrenamiento del alto nivel y oportunidades como el Campus Junior de frica ITU-BG 2007 nosotros esperamos que los jvenes triatletas africanos tengan una mayor presencia mundial en el futuro, dijo el Director del Desarrollo Deportivo de la ITU, Libby Burell.

El encargado de la formacin de entrenadores Jamie Turner de Australia y Bobby McGee de los Estados Unidos, dirigirn el campus con participantes de Kenya, Mauricio, Namibia, Nigeria, Sudfrica, Tnez y Zimbabwe. Ellos estarn junto con cinco entrenadores ayudantes que han obtenido la Acreditacin de Entrenamiento de la ITU, de los cursos de entrenamiento que se hicieron a inicios de este ao.

Como parte de la progresin de la tarea del desarrollo del deporte, est el reforzar a las federaciones nacionales para que se hagan con entrenadores de alto nivel y la transferencia de conocimientos, cada pas asistente al campus tendr un entrenador de una federacin nacional presente para observar y ganar experiencia valiosa para aplicar a sus propios programas nacionales.

El campus Continental de Triatln del 2007 en frica es uno de los cinco campus regionales anuales llevados a cabo por el equipo del desarrollo deportivo de la ITU inspirado en los jvenes atletas.
