ITU Sport Development – Junior & U23 Triathlon Training Camp in Seogwipo, Jeju, Korea

The Asian Traithlon Confederation (ASTC) and the International Triathlon Union (ITU) hosted a junior & U23 training camp in Seogwipo, Jeju, Korea, from 12th to 19th August 2010.

The Training camp took place at the Seogwipo Dong-O Marathon Center on Jeju Island, Korea.  Twenty-three athletes from 7 different Asian counties trained under the supervision of 7 Asian coaches and top international ITU Sport Development coach, Luc Morin in preparation for the Incheon Asian Cup held on August 22, 2010. Training sessions focused on skills development, technical efficiency, and race preparation.

The ASTC Sport Development Coordinator, Ki Woo Kyong (Korea), said, “It was a unique opportunity for our Asian coaches to share their experience and knowledge, as well as great learning experience for our young Asian athletes to train with others from across Asia and under the supervision of head coach, Luc Morin (Canada).”

Lam Tsz Wai Vincent (Hon Kong) refers to the camp as having been an opportunity to apply new coaching techniques and training methods. He said, “I have learned to interact with different coaches to offer the most suitable training to our athletes. It gave me an unforgettable experience as a coach at this camp.”

Yuri Solovyev (Kazakhstan) identified the team work of the coaching staff as the highlight of the camp. “The coaching staff’s teamwork developed during the camp helped everyone to gain specific training knowledge and offered a well organized camp at a high level of performance,” Solovyev said.

Mitsunu Mori (Japan) appreciated the management skills he acquired through the camp, as the highlight. “Working with coaches and athletes from different countries taught me a lot about management skills and organisation,” Mori said.

George Vilog (Philippines) underlined the quantity of knowledge and experience he received for coaching and managing U23 and Junior athletes.

This regional camp forms part of the ASTC development initiative supported by ITU in terms of funding and coaching expertise and serves as a platform to discover and develop talent in Asia.
