Ecuador is an upcoming National Federation with many talented athletes. Many of them come from the mountain region of Cuenca, an excellent place to live and to train for triathlon due to its natural qualities. Cuenca is located at 2400m and has ideal conditions all-year-round for training.
Due to the efforts of the Ecuadorian NF (TriFed) and PATCO, the city of Cuenca welcomed national and international coaches from eight different countries during the second week of April, following the success of the PATCO Salinas Continental Cup, to take part in a very long waited ITU/PATCO Level I Coaches Course.
The four-day course included theoritcal and practical sessions, which focused on the participants’ specific triathlon knowledge, translated by a general learning experience in order to be applied on training sessions on a daily basis. This was achieved through a very active participation and feedback during the course sessions, which worked on amplifying coaches’ responsiveness during these practical sessions. The Level 1 Coaches Course is part of PATCO development program of triathlon in the Americas.
ITU facilitators Rodrigo Milazzo (BRA) and Marcos González (PER) were very pleased with the outcome of the course and were very enthusiastic about the participants.
“This was an exceptional group who shared passion and excitement for triathlon… it not only represented a leap for Ecuadorian triathlon development, but it was mostly a wonderful experience for them all,” revealed Milazzo.
Marcos González commented, “I am very excited about the outcome of this course as we have positively achieved our goal of providing participants with the necessary resources that will enable them to help further the development of triathlon in the region”.
Julio Ramirez, president of the TriFed, was mostly satisfied with the attendance and the facilitators, saying, “Ecuador is very pleased with ITU and PATCO for their efforts on working towards the development of triathlon in our region, as this course will be a milestone for Ecuador´s triathlon. We are sure that in the future, triathlon athletes will all benefit from the information shared throughout this week with our coaches”.
The Level I Coaches Course is part of ITU/PATCO Triathlon Development program and will keep running throughout the year through other projects in the Americas.
