London Games Technical Delegates

It is with great pleasure that the ITU Executive Board announces the Technical Delegates for The Games of the XXX Olympiad which take place in London, England from the 27th July to 12th August 2012. Thanos Nikopoulos, ITU Events Operations Manager, and Leslie Buchanan, ITU Anti-doping Director and former ITU Technical Director, will head up a team of experienced International Technical Officials for the London Olympic Summer Games Triathlon.

Thanos and Leslie follow an illustrious crowd of former Olympic Triathlon Technical Delegates including Loreen Barnett (CAN) who oversaw Triathlon’s spectacular debut in Sydney in 2000, the late Michel Gignoux (FRA) in Athens 2004, and, most recently, Gergely Markus (HUN) and Enrique Quesada (ESP) who were the Technical Delegates for the highly successful Beijing Olympic Games Triathlon in 2008.

Thanos and Leslie will be working closely with John Lunt who has been appointed as the Competition Manager for the Triathlon for the 2012 Olympics. Leslie has worked with John before as they had similar roles for the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and for previous ITU Salford World Cups. Thanos is currently working with John on the 2009 Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series London.

Loreen Barnett said, “Having been the Technical Delegate in Sydney, I know how much work Leslie and Thanos have in front of them. I am sure that with their leadership and working in conjunction with the Competition Manager, John Lunt, the Olympic Triathlon in London will be a huge success for the athletes, the Olympic family, the spectators, media and ITU.”

Leslie and Thanos are thrilled to be given such an honour and, along with their other duties, will spend the much of the next three years focused on this endeavour.

La Junta Directiva de la ITU se complace de anunciar los Delegados Técnicos de los XXX Juegos Olímpicos que tendrán lugar en Londres, Inglaterra del 27 de Julio al 12 de Agosto. Thanos Nikopoulos, Manager de Operaciones de Eventos ITU y Leslie Buchanan, Directora Antidopaje de la ITU y ex Directora Técnica de la ITU encabezarán un equipo de experimentados Técnicos Oficiales Internacionales para la prueba de Triatlón de los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres.

Thanos y Leslie siguen los pasos de otros ilustres Delegados Técnicos Olímpicos en Triatlón, como Loreen Barnett (CAN) quien supervisó el espectacular debut del triatlón en Sydney 2000, el difunto Michel Gignoux (FRA) en Atenas 2004 y los más recientes, Gergely Markus (HUN) y Enrique Quesada (ESP) que fueron los Delegados Técnicos de Triatlón en los exitosos Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing en 2008.
Thanos y Leslie trabajarán en estrecha colaboración con John Lunt que ha sido designado Director de la Competición de Triatlón de los Juegos Olímpicos de 2102. Leslie ha trabajado anteriormente con John en funciones similares en los Juegos de la Commonwealth de 2002 en Manchester y en las Copas del Mundo ITU de Salford. Thanos está trabajando actualmente con John en las Series de los Campeonatos del Mundo de Triatlón ITU Dextro Energy de Londres 2009.
