The entire ITU family was saddened this week with the news from Venezuela that Oliver Nunez, one of the rising stars within South America was killed when he collided with a truck during a training ride. ITU President Les McDonald has sent the following message to Oliver’s family and to the Venezuellan Triathlon Federation on behalf of the ITU Family: “It is with our deepest sorrow that we hear of the tragic death of Oliver Nunez.  Life is sometimes so cruel to our young people, who should be allowed to live a long and productive life.  Please give our sympathy to Oliver’s family who must be suffering terribly because of their loss.  Although difficult, we must all find a way to celebrate the short but valuable life of Oliver, as not only the Venezuelan National Champion, but also the South American Champion.  The entire ITU family is with the Venezuelan Triathlon Federation at this time.
