Photo of the Year Final Vote Result

You’ve spoken and voted and this is it – the 2011 ITU Photo of the Year!  Delly Carr’s image of the podium celebration with the three Australian Emmas was your pick for the best photo of the year.  It was indeed a historic day in Hamburg as Emma Moffatt, Emma Jackson and Emma Snowsill swept the medals and celebrated with a beer shower on the podium.

With more than 25 per cent of the total votes, it easily won out over seven worthy finalists.  It was a close three-way battle for runner-up but the photo of Moroccan paratriathlete Mohamed Lahna crossing the finish line at the World Championships took the second spot with 17.89 per cent of the total votes.  It just edged out the photo of the Brownlee brothers in tandem in Madrid which ends up in third place.

During the Hamburg week of voting, the image of the Australian Emmas was also the pick of photographer Delly Carr:

“Three beautiful giggling athletic Australian Girls, and lots and lots of cold beer. Give me a reason why an Australian like me wouldn’t think this is the best image of the day? This image always puts a smile on my face each time.” - Delly Carr

Camera: Nikon D3S
Exposure: 1/2000 sec, F2.8
ISO: 3200
