Rio World Cup Cancelled

We regret to announce that the 2005 Rio World Cup has been cancelled.  Carlos Froes, President of the Brazilian Triathlon Federation announced today that the City of Rio de Janeiro, the main sponsor of the 2005 Rio ITU World Cup, has just confirmed that it is withdrawing form the event.
According to the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro there has been almost USD$80,000,000.00 spent on the Rio 2007 Pan American Games venue construction.
The Rio 2005 World Cup was part of a USD$1,000,000.00 City of Rio sponsorship program for a variety of sports events in 2005.  This sponsorship program has been cancelled, therefore the USD$ 200,000.00 that was supposed to be invested by the city will not be available for the World Cup.
With such an unexpected set back and with such short notice (60 days prior the event), The Brazilian Federation is unable to find another major sponsor.
Regrettably the Brazilian federation will no longer host Rio WCS.
