Snowsill wins national sports award.

También texto en español. World Champion Emma Snowsill‘s stellar year soared to new heights this week when she took the highest honour in her country at the Australian Sports Awards in Melbourne. The 25-year-old beat home a list of the nation’s sporting ‘who’s who’ to take out the Dawn Fraser Award. The honour came just five days after taking out a Gold Coast double—the Gold Coast Sportstar of the Year Award and the Gold Coast Sportswoman of the Year.
To complete the clean sweep Snowsill claimed the Queensland Sportstar of the Year Award in November.
The local, state and national recognition follows a year of outstanding international success for Snowsill. She won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in March and went on to claim victory in both the Edmonton and Richards Bay BG Triathlon World Cups. In September, she became the first woman in history to win a third ITU Triathlon World Championship.
Following the award ceremony, a shocked Snowsill said she never thought the sport of triathlon would take her so far.
“I am honoured to win this (Sportswoman) award from such a quality list of female finalists, it certainly gives my sport a massive boost. But to win the Gold the award from such an awesome list of finalists, is very humbling indeed,” she said.
Now Snowsill can add the national award to her ever growing trophy cabinet. The Dawn Fraser Award is presented to a sports star ‘in recognition of not only one individual’s achievements, but sportsmanship and contribution to the community’.
Snowsill Galardonada
El año estelar de la Campeona del Mundo Emma Snowsill ha vuelto a escena esta semana cuando recibió el más alto galardón de su país en la Gala del Deporte Australiano en Melbourne. Esta fuera de serie de 25 años se hizo hueco entre la lista del ‘quién es quién’ del deporte para llevarse el Galardón de Dawn Fraser. Esto fue después de recoger hace 5 días un doblete en la Gold Coast— el de ‘Estrella del Deporte del Año de la Gold Coast’ y el de ‘Mujer deportista del Año de la Gold Coast’.
Como colofón Snowsill se hizo con el galardón de Estrella de Deporte del Año de Queensland en noviembre.
El reconocimiento local, estatal y nacional sigue a un año de éxitos de Snowsill. Ganó una medalla de oro en los Juegos de la Commonwealth en Marzo y se hizo con la victoria tanto en la Copa del Mundo BG de Edmonton como de Richards Bay. En septiembre, se convirtió en la primera mujer de la historia en ganar un tercer Campeonato del Mundo ITU de Triatlón.
A continuación de la ceremonia, una Snowsill emocionada dijo que nunca pensó que llegaría tan lejos en el deporte del triatlón.
“Me siento afortunada por ganar este galardón de entre una lista de finalistas femeninas de tanta calidad, ciertamente da un empuje enorme a mi deporte. Pero llevarse el galardón de una lista de finalistas tan impresionante, me hace sentirme muy humilde,” dijo. Ahora Snowsill puede añadir el galardón nacional a su creciente armario de trofeos. El Galardón Dawn Fraser se presenta como ‘reconocimiento de no solo los logros individuales, si no por su contribución al deporte y a la comunidad’.
