Super Sigi strikes again!

También texto en español. Snow was a “no show“ element at the second stage of the 2007 ITU Winter Triathlon world cup held in the small but beautiful village of Freudenstadt-Kniebis. After a series of unusually mild days in the wonderful Black Forest region the race format of 2007 Freudenstadt ITU Winter Triathlon World Cup and the GVS COOLMAN Winter Triathlon was changed to a winter duathlon over a 7.5 km run, 20 km mountain bike finished by a 2.5 km run.

In the men’s race the first run segment was lead by a group of three athletes with David Roderer (GER), Pavel Brydl (CZE) and Alessandro Degasperi (ITA) made pushing the pace. On the first bike lap, Roderer make a valiant attempt to brake away but was reeled in by a group of five athlete working together inclding Degasperi, Alf Roger Holme (NOR), Daniel Antonioli (ITA), Heinz Planitzer (AUT) and Oswald Weisenhorn (ITA). In the end it came down to a running race and Degasperi showed why he’s strength with an impressive run to just outrun Norwegian Holme by a margin of 14 seconds in a time of 01:19:12. Third place went to Antonioli.

In the women’s race surprise triathlete Carina Wasle (AUT) made pushed the pace in the first run segment and along with fellow country woman Marina Penker made sure the normally dominant Sigrid Mutscheller (the new name of “Mrs Winter Triathlon” Sigi Lang after her marriage with race organiser Uli Mutscheller). But Super-Sigi showed why she is current world champions by making the bike her own, building a lead of 70 seconds ahead of Penker, who was followed by Wasle and Norwegian Camilla Hott Johannsen. In the second run segment Penker, only in her second Winter Triathlon World Cup ever again clocked the fastest run split, but couldn’t make up the gap and Sigrid Mutscheller eventually took the sixth win in the seventh year of the ITU Freudenstadt Winter Triathlon World Cup in a time of 01:31:50, 47 seconds ahead of Penker. Walse claimed third place.

The resort of Freudenstadt-Kniebis will host the 2008 ITU Winter Triathlon Word Championships from 22 to 24 February. We are all hoping for more snow at that time.

Super Sigi golpea de nuevo!

La nieve fue el elemento ausente en la segunda etapa de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón de invierno ITU de 2007 realizada en el pequeño pero hermoso pueblo de Freudenstadt-Kniebis. Después de una serie de días excepcionalmente cálidos en la maravillosa región de la Selva Negra el formato de la carrera de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón de invierno ITU de Freudenstadt de 2007 y el Triatlón de Invierno GVS COOLMAN fue cambiado duatlón de invierno con una etapa de 7.5 kilómetros de carrera, otra de 20 kilómetros en bicicleta de montaña y finalmente 2.5 kilómetros de carrera.

En la carrera masculina el primer segmento de carrera fue liderado por un grupo de tres atletas con David Roderer (GER), Pavel Brydl (CZE) y Alessandro Degasperi (ITA). En la primera vuelta en bici, Roderer hizo una valiente tentativa de escapada pero fue sometido por un grupo de cinco atletas que trabajan juntos incluyendo a Degasperi, Alf Roger Holme (NI), Daniel Antonioli (ITA), Heinz Planitzer (AUT) y Oswald Weisenhorn (ITA). Al final todo se redujo a la última etapa de carrera y Degasperi demostró su fuerza con una impresionante carrera para adelantar al noruego Holme con un margen de 14 segundos en un tiempo de 01:19:12. El tercer lugar fue para Antonioli.

En la carrera femenina, la triatleta sorpresa, Carina Wasle (AUT), llevo el liderato en el primer segmento de carrera y con su colega Marina Penker se aseguró que la
normalmente predominante Sigrid Mutscheller (el nuevo nombre de la “Sra. Triatlón de Invierno”, Sigi Lang, después de su matrimonio con el organizador de carreras Uli Mutscheller). Pero Super-Sigi demostró por qué es la actual campeona del mundo, consiguiendo una ventaja de 70 segundos en la carrera en bici por delante de Penker, que fue seguida de Wasle y de la noruega Camilla Hott Johannsen. En el segundo segmento de carrera corriendo, Penker, en su segunda Copa Mundial de Triatlón de Invierno marcó el tiempo más rápido, pero no pudo recortar la distancia y Sigrid Mutscheller se hizo con el sexto triunfo en el séptimo año de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón de Invierno ITU de Freudenstadt en un tiempo de 01:31:50, 47 segundos delante de Penker. Walse que se hizo con la tercera posición.

Freudenstadt-Kniebis will acojerá el Campeonato del Mundo de Triatlón de Invierno ITU de 2008 del 22 al 24 de Febrero. Todos esperamos más nieve para ese momento.
