Former triathlon World Champion Tim Don showed that triathletes can keep pace with the world’s best athletes, finishing seventh overall, less than a minute behind winner Haile Gebrselassie in the Great Manchester 10km.

Tim was the second Briton to cross the line, highlighting the world class performance levels that triathletes must deliver across not one, but three sports. His time of 28:56 showed he is running at an outstanding level, which also saw him become Elite British Duathlon Champion in March where he completed a 5km run, 20km bike and 2.5km run.

Upon finishing the race, Don commented: “To be the second British athlete across the line, and to finish less than a minute behind the great Gebrselassie was incredible. I raced in Seoul last weekend, and now the focus moves to the London leg of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in July and then onto the Grand final in Budapest in September”.

The London based athlete finished in 11th place in his first Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series event of 2010 in Seoul and will be looking build on that performance before the event in London’s Hyde Park on 25 July.

The Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London race is one of the highlights of the triathlon calendar for the British triathletes. The event provides the opportunity to race in front of a vocal home crowd and to be part of an exhibition of triathlon as a fast moving, modern and dynamic Olympic sport at the London 2012 triathlon venue.
