Triathlon Update from Beijing

by World Triathlon Admin on 11 Aug, 2008 12:00

Yesterday’s rain cooled down the city, giving some relief from the searing heat and humidity here in Beijing.  However, rains turned to a torrential downpour for parts of the day, forcing many spectators to take cover.

Meanwhile, north of Beijing in the Changping district, the triathlon venue continues to come together and with the rain, officials are testing different facilities in case of rain on the days of the competitions.  Currently the field of play and transition areas are in the final stages of set up and meetings are on going between different departments as they work on the final details.  Officials are also monitoring the training sites as athletes train on the course and get accustomed to the course and the conditions.

The swim course was re-measured to an accurate 1.5 kilometers and water temperature was measured at a warm 28 degrees Celsius.

If your national broadcaster is not airing the men’s and women’s triathlon competitions, you can track the race live on triathlon.org for live text and live timing from both races.
