The first Spanish Paratriathlon Championship took place April 17 in Gijon, Asturias, Spain. A total of 23 paratriathletes and four guides were at the starting line of this event, which has, undoubtedly, become a historical one in Spanish Paratriathlon. All six ITU categories were represented in the championship in both the men’s and the women’s races. In addition, three athletes with mental disabilities had the opportunity to participate.

The Spanish Triathlon Federation provides solid backing to the Paratriathlon project, an endeavour to promote the sport among those athletes with disabilities. More than 70 paratriathletes are registered to the federation.

The Spanish Triathlon Federation would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the paratriathles participating at the first Spanish Championship. If the practice of sport is truly an example of striving for self-improvement, then paratriathletes provide us with the finest example of such an undertaking.
