Uruguay hosts ITU Technical Seminar

Punta del Este, Uruguay, 3-4 December, 2010. The final seminar of the 2009 ITU Technical Education Programme was held in Punta del Este, Uruguay from 3rd to 4th of December. The two day workshop was led by Enrique Quesada, ITU Sport Results Manager with the assistance of Gustavo Svane from ITU Pan-American Development Coordinator.

“I saw a lot of interest among the attendees and the aim to improve the events and the officiating level in this region. The Rio Olympic Games in 2016 will provide motivation for the of the sport in all South-American counties. This seminar meant a lot for them not only at ITU level, but also at National level.” said Enrique Quesada.

Eight countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay sent technical officials and event organizers to participate in the ITU Technical Education Level II Seminar. 

The Uruguay Triathlon Federation hosted the course with tremendous support from both Nelly Elutchanz, President and Ines Rodriguez, Secretary General.  They also honored the seminar with their presence.

Most of the twenty-eight participants were assigned as a technical official of the first ever South-American Beach Games which was held after the seminar. (The Beach Games include beach volley, beach soccer, beach handball, beach rugby, fitness, water ski, surf, sailing, open water swim and triathlon.)

The ITU Technical Education Programme will take place in 2010 with new regions and countries in order to get the highest level of the technical officiating at international, continental and national level all over the world.
