USA Triathlon has named Skip Gilbert its permanent executive director.

Gilbert will be leaving his position as the Eastern Advertising Director for Outside Magazine in New York, N.Y., to take the reins at USA Triathlon in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He has also held positions as the Vice President for Corporate Partnerships and Publishing with the Arena Football League, the Managing Director for Business Development at USA Swimming and the Vice President of Sales for U.S. Soccer.

In 10 years working for the Sporting News Publishing Company, Gilbert rose from account executive to national sales manager.

“I am thrilled and honored to be selected as USAT’s next executive director,” Gilbert said. “My role is to be a proponent for the continued evolution of this great sport and I look forward to working with the staff and USA Triathlon’s many constituencies.”

“We think Skip’s extensive experience in sports marketing will be a big benefit to USA Triathlon,” said USAT Board of Directors President Brad Davison. “We are looking to him to strengthen our relationships with all of our partners, from race directors, members, clubs and regions to the U.S. Olympic Committee and the International Triathlon Union.”

Gilbert will move from Connecticut to Colorado Springs in the next month with his wife, Jenifer, and children Fritz, Austin and Greta.

Gilbert began his career as a professional soccer goalkeeper playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and political science in 1982 from the University of Vermont.

USA Triathlon would also like to thank Mike Greer for his time and service to the organization as interim executive director.

“Mike stepped in at an important time and provided stability to USA Triathlon,” Davison said. “His creativity and good nature helped USAT move forward in its important work.”

Greer will return to Lubbock, Texas, where he is the founder of the Buffalo Springs Lake Triathlon and several other races along with his wife, Marti.
